The number 42 on the Golden State Warriors' jersey is retired in honor of Nate Thurmond, who played for the Warriors from 1963-1974. Thurmond was a seven-time NBA All-Star and is considered one of the best centers in NBA history. He retired with the Warriors as their all-time leading rebounder and was the first player in NBA history to record a quadruple-double. Thurmond passed away in 2016 and was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame posthumously in 2018.
